Polignano a Mare
Polignano a Mare is just 9km north of Monopoli along Italy's Adriatic coast and is considered one of Puglia's most beautiful towns. Located on top of craggy cliffs with the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea below, we certainly think the title fits.
The beautiful old town of Polignano a Mare
Lama Monachile bay and beach lies between two cliffs and Polignano a Mare
The lovely Vittoria Emanuele Square with the Mother Church of Santa Maria and its Bell Tower. The church was completed in 1628 and the Bell Tower was completed in three different times between 1503 and 1664.
As we were walking along the seawall we noticed a giant fog bank coming at towards us from the sea. It slowly moved onto land and engulfed the town. The fog lifted after about 45 minutes and we were back in the warm sunshine once again.

The town is situated on limestone rock and many caves have been created by the relentless motion of the sea, wind and rain. Many are big enough for boats to take tourists into and explore the interior of these grotto's. You look and wonder when they might collapse and send it all into the sea
